ABOUT

Moore Mediation

RACHEL MOORE

As a facilitative mediator, I combine my passion for organizing with a love of new ideas to empower people to find their own creative solutions. Mediation is the second wave of my professional career. As an attorney in Illinois, I worked at a non-profit organization serving low-income domestic violence survivors, a high net-worth family law firm in Chicago, and as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois. An accomplished litigator, I successfully practiced in federal and state courts and before various administrative tribunals. Although passionate about litigation and skilled in the courtroom, I came to realize that litigation is not a nuanced process and it doesn't adequately address most of life's challenges. In 2013, I completed the general mediation skills training program at Northwestern University's School of Continuing Studies.  I learned I could use the skills of litigation: asking questions, thinking on my feet, and understanding the human dynamic fueling any dispute, to facilitate decision making for the rest of my career. Since that time, I have practiced, taught, and continued to train in various areas of mediation. All of the services offered by Moore Mediation Solutions are areas that I have both personal and professional experience and interest in.  While my own experiences and decisions are not directly relevant to the outcome of any mediation, they do inform my ability to listen and ask helpful questions. Most of all, I am grateful to work with so many interesting people every day, to hear amazing stories, and to empower solutions.

MEDIATION

Mediation creates a process for structured decision making and constructive conversation. The mediation process itself is custom created by the mediator to empower individuals to gather information efficiently and make informed decisions. Solutions created through mediation can be detailed, creative, and effective. There are so many ways in which our lives can be improved with a structured process to resolve conflict. Mediation helps individuals and groups to gather information efficiently, discuss ideas calmly, and problem solve creatively.

The mediator will meet with everyone individually and then create a customized process. It may be helpful at times to meet all together in person, but it is often better to meet on zoom in order to avoid travel time and costs, to create a professional tone, and to share documents easily. Participants to a mediation may come alone or with attorneys or others as agreed upon. And where absolutely necessary, parties to the mediation can even stay separated while the mediator shuttles between them. Mediation may involve one facilitated conversation, or may involve ongoing joint sessions until all needed decisions are reached.
